Bestiarium of Manuel Philes
Renaissance France influenced by Islamic art. French, 1564. Brown goatskin with gilt decorated corner-pieces and a central panel painted with the Three Graces. This manuscript of the bestiary of Manuel Philes was written out for François I in Paris. The pattern of elaborate centre- and corner-pieces was directly influenced by Islamic bindings imported a century earlier into Italy.
