La saincte Bible francoise
A glamorous Bible. French, c. 1621. Red goatskin, elaborately tooled in the 'mosaic' style; the arms of Charles Henry, Count Hoym (1694–1736) are a later insertion. The de luxe nature of French mosaic bindings, of which this is a spectacular example, indicates that this Bible is an object of status and display.
