Snow bird, Broom-rape, and toad stool, 1731
Illustration showing a Snow bird (Passer nivalis), a clump of Broom-rape (Orobanche Virginiana flore pentapetalo cernuo), and a toad stool (Fungoides capitulo intorto). The Snow bird's bill is white, as is the breast and belly. The rest of the body is black. In Virginia and Carolina, the bird appears only in winter.
