Nerve leprosy: a small lesion on a patient's hand; insert shows detail of the infected nerve. Watercolour (by Jane Jackson ?), 1921/1950 (?), after original (paintings ?) by Ernest Muir, ca. 1921.
Lettering: A very mild case of nerve leprosy. The only sign was loss of sensation in the patch shown by the inked-in circle. The nerve supplying the skin was slightly thickened and a few leprosy bacilli were found inside the nerve. A case like this will very often heal up spontaneously if the patient is in good health. From Dr. E. Muir's original.
