Though surrounded by a lake of water, it is actually an official watering hole that these soldiers are using in order to fill up their water cans. The pipeline in the bottom left of the image is attached to a small tube. In turn, this small tube pipes fresh water from the pipeline and into the communal trough. The water in the surrounding lake would have been too dirty for the soldiers to use. …
