Ravenna, Mausoleo di Galla Placidia, Lunetta del martirio di San Lorenzo
Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, wall mosaic decoration, south cross branch, lunette: the martyrdom of Saint Lawrence. Crowned in golden halo, holding a gold rod cross and a book, Saint Lawrence is standing near a burning gridiron, the symbol of his martyrdom. On the left side of the gridiron a cabinet, depicted as a temple, contains the Evangelists' gospels.
