fan (personal protection)
Large basketry fan, made using plaited plant fibre. The head of the fan is folded in half around a cylindrical wooden pole, which acts as the fans handle. Each half of the fan head is a thin sheet of woven fibre, in a trapezium shape with a rounded bottom. The fan is plaited in a zig-zag pattern of naturally coloured fibres. The pole is wooden and is painted in red banding sections.
