The slide trumpet was a prominent, virtuoso brass instrument in England in the 19th century and was particularly associated with two players, a father and son both named Thomas Harper. This instrument belonged to Thomas Harper Jr. (1816-1898) and was auctioned after his death at Sotheby's on 23 December 1898.
