MESOLITHIC TRANCHET AXEHEAD
Flint axe. Probable tranchet axe of Late Mesolithic date. Long, oval flaked axe with an oval cross section. Off-white flint with a heavy patina and orange iron staining. This object was unearthed many years ago and has been curated by the owners, hence its yellow-brown "mantlepiece" patina. The butt of the axe is tapered almost to a point.
