Paletot coat
In the second half of the 19th century short and calf-length tailored sleeved coats were often known by the French term paletot. The decoration on this paletot consists of an appliqué braid with jet beads, a semiprecious mineral. The stylised scrolling follows the flowing lines of Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) that emerged in the late 19th century.
