Porträt James Brydges, Herzog von Chandos (ca. 1674-1744)
Auf dem Kupferstich ist James Brydges, Herzog von Chandos abgebildet. Zwei Jahre lang, zwischen 1717 und 1719, stand Georg Friedrich Händel in den Diensten des englischen Adeligen. Während dieser Zeit entstand u.a. "Esther", das erste englische Oratorium des hallischen Komponisten.
Das Kunstwerk wurde von der englischen Kupferstecherin Sarah Reading geschaffen. Als Vorlage diente ihr eine Malerei …
